“The Only Way to Quit Smoking” by Allen Carr. Read past threads on quitting smoking and this book seems to be quite inspirational. Anyone got a copy lying around they would like to sell? Lend?
How tough is it? I have been biting my knuckles for the past 15 minutes but am not reaching for that cigarette.
My quit smoking diary:
Start Jan 15 Saturday 2005 10.30 PM.
End…?
If anyone else is quitting and they have any nice cigars in their possession that they need someone to take (so as not to tempt you), I would be happy to help you.
I used the patch for one week to help me quit and I’ve been smoke free since July 20th. You’ll only be able to quit when you decide its really time for you to quit and you’ve had enough of the little cancerous friend.
914, go for it! If I had my copy here I’d gladly lend it to you…sorry. He breaks down the myth that you actually need that cigarette, it’s not preachy, but in a good way is pure brainwashing.
I’m off at least 3 years now thanks to that book. A colleague of mine bought it for me…I bought her a huge bunch of flowers to say “Cheers”
Maybe you could check out Amazon or get a friend to post you a copy, it is very light.
I quit smoking 5 years ago this coming February, and I haven’t had a cigarette since. I easily smoked a pack a day (sometimes a little more) for 11 years. To be honest, I didn’t think I would ever quit. I tried the patch, hypnosis, nicotine gum, cold turkey, etc. The one thing that finally worked for me was Zyban (AKA Wellbutrin).
Every time I mention Zyban, people dismiss it because it’s a little expensive. Or maybe they don’t like the idea of taking an antidepressant. I don’t know. In any case, it definitely worked. It made my cravings almost completely disappear. I
He tried cold turkey, gum, patches, and yes, even zyban. The thing that finally worked for him was that Carr book, so yeah, get your hands on it and give it a read.
I like the cool taste of Marlboro Lights. It’s so comforting to share a smoke with other imperfect people. Just one wont hurt. You can always quit tomorrow. Nice and relaxing. Takes the edge off. Ahhhh.
Of course Zyban isn’t going to work for everyone. The patch didn’t work for me, but it has worked for thousands of other people. My point is just that people should try every option that’s available to them.
If Carr’s book doesn’t work, keep trying. Use the patch, gum, Zyban or whatever works. And I think it’s true that no matter what method you use, you’ll probably never be successful until you’re truly ready to give them up.
I tried the patches one time. Rolled em up n smoked them but to no avail.
The gum worked well for me but ended up getting addicted to it. I was chewing 7 packs a day.
Have you tried to quit smoking and failed? Doctor recomended techniques, pills ,patches and gum didn’t work for you? You want to quit but just can’t seem to find the willpower? Fear not for help is just a phone call away. Our painless “quit smoking in one minute method” has helped thousands of people just like you.
Simply hold anti smoking device in hand, load, and press trigger.
Call the number on your screen now 1 800 fukc it thats 1 800 fukc it.
914 - Determine the average number of cigarrettes you smoke per day and then allow yourself that many, and no more, for a week. The following week reduce that number by ten percent etc etc. In ten weeks you will be a non smoker. This allows your mind and body time to adjust and provides you with an easy target to achieve each week. It is both good psychology and good biology. It does require though that you are determined enough.
Anyway this is the advice I give all my smoking friends. None of them have tried it and none of them have quit smoking. That was because they didn’t really want to.
The zyban sounds like a good idea as well. I see no reason you couldn’t try the two simultaneously.
By the way, can any body tell me, what does the book suggest?
I’m still smokin’, by the way. (That’s what Loretta keeps tellin me, anyway).
The problem I think is smokes are so cheap and they’re e-ver-y-where. If I were in the middle of a town where the closest store is ten minutes away, I’d be too lazy to walk there to buy any and therefore I would be able to quit. But I’m surrounded by corner stores and won’t be moving any time soon, so no, I don’t think I’m addicted. I can’t be. I’m stronger than that! :s
