Racism on forumosa (?)

Wow! You get a prize for stating the obvious.

Did your acquaintance really say that? :unamused:[/quote]

He is dutch. And if you want racists - just look at some post at Forumosa - but obviously we’re all in denial.

Hmmm… I dunno. Mind citing a few of these “racist” posts to which you refer? I’m curious.

Yeah, I can think of one certain poster who has made several blantly anti sematic remarks that have not been temped or anything. So yeah. I agree with you there.

But, is anti-semitic necessarily “racist”?

I mean, I agree its not nice to be anti-any group of people… but, surely it isn’t necessarily racist to dislike a particular group of people, is it?

Well in general Jew is an ethnicity as well as a religion. So yes.

Okay, that aside I can think of two posters (Who I’m sure someone else will name as I don’t really wish to fight with them) who have posted several blatantly racist …maybe “jokes” in IP discussions.

One of the reasons I never ever post in there is because of the amount of this sort of stuff that goes on in there.

Should I name names because that will be “insulting people” and i already got warned about that.

Nope. You should not. Your continual attempts to begin flame fests are boring, predictable and wearing thin.

Aw c’mon, you have to cite examples or this is as boring as suggesting someone on Forumosa took a dump this morning and didn’t wipe their arse properly. No names of course, for obvious reasons.

Semites are a race, that happen to include Jews. An Arab friend of mine at college who was blatantly anti-Israel took great pride in pointing this out to me on many occasions.

Tigerman, by your definition of ‘believing one is superior to another as a function of race,’ wouldn’t one need to have a pretty good understanding of both cultures before one could make a rational decision to be a racist?

What is it called when people hate other people because of the colour of their skin?
What is it called when people hate other people because people from another country moved in and took their jobs?
What is it called when people hate other people because of their religious beliefs?
What is it called when someone beats up someone of another colour just because they are from another country?
What is it called when people hate other people because of a war they fought?
What is it called when people chant ‘monkey’ at black footballers?

Is it racism, it is xenophobia, is it being bigoted?

If you marginalize the definition of racism to the point where it is an educated choice then you wipe out about 90% of what most folks refer to as racism. Is that a good thing?
Defining things only serves to reduce the response we can give to a problem.

TigerMan -
Good point. No one should have to “like” a group just because someone has determined it “correct” to do so.
Where is it written that one has to like and accept that with which they do not agree?

More programing by ‘social engineers’ IMO.
Long winded wank jobs promoting their agenda.
And where is it written that one has the right to go thru life without being insulted or offended?
Run back to Mommy children.
Life ain’t fair.

Such a cocoon.

Forumosa is people. Some people are racist. It’s that simple.

How often can someone say ‘I hate them blah blahs,’ and give logical reasons? Mel Gibson thought he hated ‘them jews,’ then said, ‘actually I’m ignorant.’

Hate and prejudice often have to do with ignorance about something, rather than a full understanding of something.

Hey I didn’t start this topic you know - one of the moderators moved it. And you yourself damn well know there is racism in forumosa, although the definition of racism becomes very flexible depending on who is being targeted or who’s spewing the garbage.

Names or examples, Red Frog, the discussion is vacuous without them.

And get myself banned for insulting people? No way. What would you guys do without me? Anyway I do not have to point out the obvious.

You won’t be banned, just provide examples.

HG

Pushy today aren’t we, HG? Ok, here’s your damn examples, no names as requested, but these are all valid excerpts from forumosa posts:

Notice a pattern there??? :ponder:

A rational decision? I suppose. But, that is irrelevant. A learned man can be racist just as well as an ignorant man.

Yeah… I know… that too is referred to as “racism”. I really dislike that definition, because I think its the PC definition. I mean, look, the term “racism” has an “ism” suffix. An “ism” is a belief… an ideology… right? So, defining “racism” as a behavior (discrimination), is IMO, simply wrong. Yes, its widely accepted that “racism” is discrimination based on race… But, again, I think that’s a weak definition of a term that ends with the suffix, “ism”.

Hate?

Bigotry?

Mindless violence?

Hate?

If the chant is based in a belief that the black footballers are inferior as a function of their race, I’d call such chanting a manifestation of racism.

I think its a very good thing that people understand the meanings of the words they use.

Call me crazy!
