Rare Ice Cream Finds

I wonder if you’d ever find Blue Bells in Taiwan?

I mean it’s ok I guess but to me it’s about on par with other brands. It’s kind of like Xiaomei of Texas.

Was just thinking about the 1/2 gal of Blue Bell butter pecan I plowed through a month ago, in Austin, in less than a week. Dangerous, dangerous ice cream. Should maybe be illegal.

This place in Toucheng near the old street

聯發芋冰老店
No. 190, Section 3, Qingyun Road, Toucheng Township, Yilan County, 261

This is not your typical traditional Taiwanese “ice cream” but almost exactly like what we call Italian ices back in NYC. I thought I was back home eating the chocolate. The guava was amazing, they were preparing box loads of fresh guava when we went in. Every flavor we tried was good. Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby.

Thanks. I frequently go to Toucheng/Wai’ao and I’m always looking for good ice cream so I’ll definitely check this place out.

Not sure if it’s rare, but it was my first time seeing this brand in my local pxmart. I bought the cookies and cream and it’s pretty good.

Bulla is from Australia, right? Does it come in on the sweet side (like US products) or on the creamy side (like EU products)?

Guy

Yea, it’s an Australian brand. I found it to be more on the creamy side.

This is… interesting.
Frozen peanut butter slushy.
Familymart.

I scored a pint of Bulla Cookies & Cream, noted above, at my local PX Mart. Not bad, but (for me anyways) it was still a bit sweet, and could use more density.

Following up on the topic of ice creams from down under, I then stumbled across a pint of Talley’s Hokey Pokey, from Talley’s Motueka Creamery in New Zealand. This vanilla/honey combo was cheaper than the Australian product (it cost NT$105 at my local Family Mart), and wow was it good! This may be the crack cocaine of ice creams. Forumosans be warned! : D

So about a decade ago…maybe longer, 7-11 used to sell Snickers ice cream bars. They were to die for! And like all things good here, they vanished after a couple years.

Fast forward to November 2nd, 2020…lo and behold…

Found at a local 7-11 in Sanxia tonight.

Now while it’s not exactly the same as a Snickers ice cream bar…it pretty much is.

Enjoy if you can find em!

Ok, whatever it takes for Level 4 emergency, we may now be at it. The Carrefour in Danshui has no Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. This was almost - almost - as nerve-wracking as all the people standing too close together in line.

Oh, who am I kidding, I was more upset about the ice cream.

Did they still have other brands, I prefer the Aussie one over Tom and Jerry.

I’m lucky, I have all the ice cream I need. Just added roasted apple ice cream.

Plenty of other brands, but after I realized there was no Ben and Jerry’s my tears blurred my vision too much to notice what they were.

I’m enjoying my dig into a tub of Meiji (made-in-Taiwan version) Cookies Cream [sic] ice cream. Also found at Carrefour! : D

999 out of my 1000 weeks thus far spent in Taiwan (damn, that number’s not too far off either), I would ask the location of this branch, and trek across the metropolitan area to obtain the carton of fatty sugary deliciousness. But this week, alas, no. Probably not next week either. Mid June, maybe.

This needs to happen here, like yesterday.
