Unfortunately they are critically endangered in Kinmen.
Last time otters were trapped in Taiwan proper was 1989 in Namaxia…yep that is a very wild place also deep into the mountains.
By the way it took me quite a lot of digging just to get this information. The retired Pingdong Uni prof mentioned above has done a lot to try and build awareness of the need for wild animal conservation.
