Couldn’t find an answer to this on the forum, so was wondering if anyone here happened to know (since reading the docs is like reading a Greek stereo manual). It’s been 3 years since I left Taiwan and I know my househould registration is already moved out, but I’ve heard that the process to re-establish it is really annoying if you’ve been gone more than 4 years. Is this true? I can’t figure out what exactly the difference is between being absent 2-4 years and after 4 years.
I’m debating making a trip before the 4 years are up just to re-activate it (and I know with the new law that I’ll be on the hook for paying for the jianbao for the rest of my life and probably won’t ever use it, but that’s fine with me). If the process isn’t that much more worse after 4 years though then I’ll just wait when it’s more convenient to fly back and spend the weeks needed to go through the process. (It’s not a huge deal for me not to have HHR at the moment, but I don’t want to come to a point where re-establishing it will be incredibly troublesome if not borderline logistically impossible if I can avoid it, also might want to confer Taiwanese citizenship to my kids down the line).
Thanks for any help!
