One of the attractions of Tom Bihn and Red Oxx for me as they are American made, in small factories by people who care about their craft (I know that to be the case with Tom Bihn at least). But Tom Bihn bags aren’t very handsome.
I usually buy LLBean, since I generally need to replace my luggage every 3-4 years and they stand behind their return policy.
Don’t go cheap. You’ll regret it when you’re running towards your airplane that’s taking off in 3 minutes and the wheels start popping off. You may be better off getting a set in the US (if possible). I picked up a 2 piece set of Samsonite at Costco for under 200 bucks. One was a 28" and the other a 21"

The wheels don’t pop off of any half decent modern luggage, what a joke
. Why the hell would you need to buy luggage in the US, Taiwan has luggage stores everywhere. I’ve bought all types of no name/local brand luggage here and they held up for years and years of punishment. I’ve been really impressed with the locally made stuff. They may eventually get busted up from getting flung out of airplanes though or the zippers get damaged due to stress. The ergonomics are important too, you don’t want to get back strain from hauling or lugging the things around. Anyway… I will let you get back to your brand fandom. ![]()
I’ve bought a really cheap carry ona and the wheels did indeed pop off during its maiden voyage. It wasn’t half decent. Maybe a tenth? I didn’t expect it to do well because I only paid a couple hundred NT for it. The reason why I go with brand names is for the service and warranty. Most of the time you’ll be getting a 3 to 5 year warranty. The reason why you buy it in the US is because it’s less than NT$5000 for 2 pieces. Probably about the same price as a locally made half decent modern combo. Why not get a wholly decent modern set?
Depends on the price and if you live in the US I guess. Nothing wrong with getting a good deal.
