I am saving my 1 kuai’s to buy a 42" monitor late fall. When I get it, I would like to use my desktop as both the tv tuner and dvd player for the monitor (htpc). To that end, I am looking to buy a video card to use specifically for playing dvd’s on the 42" monitor. I do not yet know whether it will be led or lcd, or whatever might be the presiding technology then. Any input now will be appreciated. I would like to spend no more than NT 4,000 but if you feel I need a better card than that money will buy, I can wait until I have more 1 kuai for the card I ultimately will have a 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound system in the picture. Is that an important consideration when choosing a video card?
TV, even HD TV, is pretty undemanding for modern video cards. You could buy the cheapest one there is and it’ll work just fine.
Frankly, though, why bother? Someone was telling me the other day that, for $200 a month, the cable company will supply you with a Tivo-like box and 400 channels of trash, including 100 channels of HD trash. Just make sure your monitor has both DVI (for the PC) and HDMI/YPrPb for the CATV, and you’re in business. Having your PC in the middle is pretty pointless.
