Greetings - I’ll be spending most of October 2012 in Kaohsiung and looking for a school to get some daily conversational practice. I lived in TW from 2001 to 2004 and my Mandarin is decent, the stay this time will be too short to bother with formal university classes, hence looking for recommendations on a buxiban, ideally with a dedicated core group of intermediate/advanced level students.

Taipei Language Institute (“TLI”) located on the second floor of the building on the NW corner of Chungshan and Qingnian roads.
Most of the classes are one-to-one, but you may be able to find a small group that suits your timetable and ability level.
I’ve done short-term classes at TLI Kaohsiung for a month’s time and found them to be very accomodating.
Thanks! In the meantime I found this thread forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?t=48759 which also gives repeat mention to TLI. It’s a hike from where I’m staying but I’ll check it out.
