Refund automatic?

My wife filed for me. When I called, the lady seemed very busy and I’m not sure she understood my question.

So is the refund automatic? I mean, I don’t need to file a separate application do I? If after crunching all the numbers it is found that a refund is coming, then it’s automatic, right?
