Reggae Parties past and future

Reggae Parties… “Reggae For A Cause”… on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, at Bliss Bar at 148 HsinYi Road (4), Taipei, have been poorly attended and are in danger of being terminated.

I am hoping the ex-pat community here in Taipei will take an active interest in the project and start attending in numbers. Are there really that many places in Taipei where you can go out and hear authentic reggae? Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Garnett Silk, Luciano, Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Glen Washington, Buju Banton, Bunny Wailer, Third World, Bushman, Anthony B, Junior Byles, Big Youth, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Augustus Pablo, Jacob Miller, Pato Banton, Mighty Diamonds, Sly and Robbie, Johnny Clarke, Linval Thompson, Everton Blender, Gladiators, Wailing Souls, Yellowman, Barrington Levy, Shabba Ranks, Lady Saw, Tony Rebel… you get my point. Some of the greatest music ever recorded. Original artists on CD. Classic and modern roots with a touch of dancehall.

The full cover charge of 100 nt is donated to organizations like NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN’S FUND (which did not fare very well this past weekend), and before that, JAMAICA AWARENESS ASSOCIATION, CALIFORNIA in Los Angeles (after our first Sunday on Nov. 15 we sent them a check toward their scholarship fund for Jamaican children). For such a small amount, 100 nt, significant amounts will be raised for causes only if folks start turning out in numbers.

Come on out on 12/3 from 7-9… and bring friends! Plan to come often… invite your English students (it’s a non-smoking event). Drinks are CHEAP – beer, wine and standard drinks are 90 nt (some specialty drinks are 149 nt). Music will end at 9:00, plenty early to do whatever else you need to do. We’ll make this one for Mandela’s fund too.
