Moses was probably also on drugs when he saw the “burning bush,” suggested Shanon, who said he himself has dabbled with such substances.
“The Bible says people see sounds, and that is a clasic phenomenon,” he said citing the example of religious ceremonies in the Amazon in which drugs are used that induce people to “see music.”
lol. Can you see the 3 religions of the book allowing its adherents to have religious experiences induced by pharmacopia? Not that I’m against it.
Rastafarianism springs to mind. not quite one of the religions of the book but close enough to it.
many shamanistic cultures use drugs ritually, from mescaline (peyote cactus) to dimethyltryptamine (ayahuasca bark) to muscarine (Amanita muscaria), as a few examples.
Christianity and Judaism use alcohol, for that matter, not that it’s a terribly strong hallucinogen, but was probably considered ‘holy’ as drinking wine never made you sick, unlike bad water could.
They have half-kilo reblochon cheeses in Carrefour for a paltry NT$289. That’s as close to a religious experience as I’ve had of late.
so I guess episodes of Bay Watch don’t count?
