Renting DVDs/Blu-rays online

blockbuster doesn’t have any yet… any place has em? would like to rent some to try out on my newly acquired ps3…

if not where can I buy em? anybody know of places with decent selections?

Get off the MRT at Zhongxiao Xinsheng exit 1 (I think) and walk along Xinsheng road towards Bade Road. Turn left into the last alley before Bade Road, about 50M on your right are 2 DVD shops that carry Blu-Ray discs. I don’t have the exact address sorry.

There’s a rental place in Yonghe on Yongli road. Just over Fuhe bridge and turn right at the traffic circle.
number 120 Yongli Rd.

Many of the blockbusters now rent BR disks. Search for your local branch here blockbuster.com.tw/

Also there is a chain of stores called Ya Yi (Asia 1) with a yellow sign and they also rent BR disks. asia1.com.tw/

You can buy them at at least 2 stores in Guang Hua Shang Chang computer market NT$500 - $1100 a piece typically.

You can download rips of them but you will lose the TrueHD or DTS-HD lossless studio soundtrack (not all disks offer this though). You can download full disks but they are like 40GB and not all versions of PowerDVD play the folder, you need 7.3.3319. Have yet to try ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater.

For a player I hear the PS3 is a great and cheap BR player, even if you never play a single game on it.

After the recent drop in Blu-rays to under 3000 I am now blu-ray capable, but not rich enough to afford the discs. Blockbuster and Asia1 have a combined catalogue of about 12, and there’s not one within a 5 minute walk. But there is this site that delivers: www.lilydvd.com.tw Anyone know anything about them?

Actually, they are quite good. They have a much larger selection than Blockbuster and Asia1 combined, but they don’t have everything as they claimed they do. And they are cheaper ($NT80 vs $NT100) You have to download their software to browse and order, and they send a man round to drop them off the next day, then tell them online you want to return them (you can do that just before midnight, and you get an extra night) and they send someone round to pick them up. That’s free if you rent more than one.

Where are the under 3000 Blu-rays?
Where are the under 3000 Blu-rays?
Sorry, I typed gibberish above, I meant under $3000 Blu-ray ROM drives for using on a computer, which has to be fairly modern. Mine came with a OEM version of PowerDVD too.

Well that’s not so bad. It probably won’t work on my Atari.
