Does anyone know if there is more then 1 type of paper that you get from the clinic for your health exam? When I first arrived, I had my needle and general exam for the paper, paid my $1000 and walked away. Now I’m applying for a resident visa through marriage since my wife is working and has an ARC. The Foreign Affairs Bureau said that all I need is to go up to Taipei and get my marriage certificate notorized (which I did) and bring my health exam paper and my wife’s ARC up to Taichung. I did that and she said it’s the wrong health paper! She said that I now have to go back to the hospital and get different tests done (stool and lepracy test) and bring back the correct health paper.
I’m confused. Has anyone applied for a Resident Visa before? If not, does anyone know if there is more then one type of paper from the health exam?

You need to reread your marriage resident visa paperwork. Don’t listen to what people tell you.
The health exam you get for a marriage visa is entirely different from the yearly ARC health exam, and it’s much more extensive (poop test, drug test, Xrays, etc. etc. etc.)
The good news is that once you’ve done this, you NEVER have to take another health exam for an ARC again. This will be your last one, and don’t let people tell you differently. Read the laws (links available on Forumosa, sorry, don’t have them handy at the moment.) You will have to renew your ARC (unless the laws have changed since I got mine and it’s now permanent), but after you get your marriage visa, you do not need a work permit, and THAT’S what people get the yearly health exam for.
When I did mine some years ago, I was given a container for my poop and told to use the nearby toilet. Well, it was already full of poop! I mean, I wouldn’t sit, squat, or otherwise bare my ass to that sucker under the most desperate of circumstances! I ended up collecting a bit of poop from home, smuggling it into the hospital, then doing a clandestine poop transfer into the (dated) container given on my next visit. What a laugh.
Just do it. Get your marriage visa. It’s not as painful as it looks. Really. One step at a time.
I did the test in Germany. Right, Lepracy, AIDS, drugs and stool and and…
The doc there was very surprised I need a lepracy test. She did not know if there is a test first. She felt really funny looking for lepracy on a guy who always spent his life in Europe.
They are doing a lot of visa health check there, but told me Taiwans is one of the strictest by far…
But is it the same test for foreigners joining other foreigners with an ARC? Some of you guys did the foreigner joining a Taiwanese spouse test. How come for my work permit I don’t need a health check, but to join me on an ARC my wife does? Strange…
