Reverend to face church trial for officiating his son's wedding

Well… his son’s gay wedding. And members of the United Methodist Church aren’t happy about it. Yet this isn’t just any reverend. Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Ogletree was the dean of Yale Divinity School, who still teaches theological ethics.

His son asked him to officiate, and Dr. Ogletree said yes, since his daughter married her partner in a non-methodist ceremony. Those who opposed him asked him to apologize and never officiate at another homosexual wedding, and Dr. Ogletree refused. So now he’s about to get a church trial…

He says: “Sometimes, when what is officially the law is wrong, you try to get the law changed, but if you can’t, you break it.”

Sounds like an interesting development in the whole debate on gay weddings.
