We’re only talking road bikes here, not MTBs or flat bar hybrids.
Here’s a update for 2017:

Bufalo near Da Dao Cheng Wharf https://www.facebook.com/bufalobike/

My friends and I are going to Taiwan in October to do whole island trip following route no. 1 around 10 days and we were thinking to just walk in to any shop to rent a bike. Would like to ask for your advice. Do you think this is a good idea? Beside these 4 shops do other shop around Taipei provide rental? Could you give other suggestion? Any road name where mostly bicycle shop available. Not looking for expensive rent but middle range is good enough. English and Chinese speaking is not a problem. We did ask Giant shop and they mentioned the bicycle rent not available during our trip.
Unfortunately, through my research, the above shops that you have read are the only shops that I know of that rent bikes (in Taipei). I do not suggest coming here without having already booked and reserved your bikes.
It’s busy season for round the island tours. The wind direction is changing and the weather isn’t unbearably hot or too cold/rainy. You don’t get a long time frame with this kind of weather, so lots of locals and visitors tend to take their trip in October.
What I can suggest is to bring your own bikes. I understand a bike bag is expensive and the airline could charge you for extra baggage, but it will be much less of a hassle and guarantees you a bike.
Thank you for the reply…

Yo Yo Bike near Shuang Lian/Mackay Hospital http://pcocycling.com.tw/bicycle-test-ride-and-rented/
Mid-high end. 2000NT for any model and size for a day. The store is a Specialized shop, so that 2000NT can go towards you purchasing an merchandise in the shop. Just like the Dazhi flag ship store that I listed up top.
Stumbled upon this thread and would like to provide some more information for those who are interested. We run a bike rental online, specialized in Rikulau road bikes (sizes XS to XL). Our rental packages all include free delivery and retrieval within Taipei city. And, we speak very good English (have to, or my former professors in the English Department are going to give me a hard time). Oh, and we’re phone addicts that couldn’t help responding to emails/messages ASAP, so you can be assured that you’ll hear back from us soon enough.
Here’s our website: http://www.bikeexpress.com.tw
Here’s info on Rikulau if you don’t already know the brand: http://www.bikeexpress.com.tw/our-partners/rikulau-international/
Thanks!
Thank you! Our pleasure.
I rent a bike from Homey Bike near Taipei main station which is not on ranlee’s list. They staffs are all speak English fluently. It’s easy to make reservation on their website and get instant confirmed. They have two pick-up location where locate at Taipei and Taoyuan Airport. The road bikes looks very new maybe because they are new opened.
