Ok…the intent of this post is to highlight the safety or lack thereof when passing through intersections…and in Taiwan, it’s a hot subject to discuss how often motorists burn through red lights or just plainly don’t pay any attention to where the traffic is coming from while making completely unsafe maneouvres through intersections…
This little video, which is a compilation of accidents and incidents from CCTV footage in Japan. There’s no gore in it, but it does show real accidents.
The point is that if even the Japanese (who are decent drivers by Asian standards) still manage to pull off such crashes, then the risk must be ten fold here…be safe.
The worst one being the one where it looked like a small child was thrown out from the rear window in the accident, so not only trying to creep across the intersection, but doing so without making sure the child is correctly strapped in. :loco:
Heh! Reminds me of the perils of trying to learn the ways of London traffic after spending all my drive time in the provinces. That’s how you drive in London. In Rome, on the other hand, there’s no “inching.” Those Italian drivers have BALLS!

To me the greatest significance of this clip is that it was an excerpt form actual TV show.
Have anyone seen anything serious about road safety on TV in Taiwan?
Real footage with a commentary of an expert on road safety ideally?
What we get in Taiwan are cute advertisements and gore passing as news.
Kudos to Japanese TV.
Note the large number of serious collisions during left turn (right in Japan).
This is where one should watch out.
The slow movers are usually people who should not drive at all: old folks who barely can see
and technically poor drivers (woman usually)
You see them creeping through reds and then doing 40 on a straight road.
