Rocking chair

Where can you buy a rocking chair in Taipei, like a normal, old-fashioned, wooden one? I’ve never seen them in furniture shops. I’m not really interested in “gliders” although that may work, too.

Try Ikea or Costco. I remember Costco had one but that was a while ago. The furniture stores may not have them but they could order them for you if they have it in a catalogue.

hi

i am wanting to buy a nice rocking chair for my wife.

ikea aint an option as they are too low and well… pretty ugly.

something like this - dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=7830 - is what i am after… and if need be i will just order from the US, but i would prefer to source something here.

I prefer this one
amazon.com/gp/product/B000CC … =furniture

but this is quite cool
amazon.com/gp/product/B000F9 … =furniture

Sorry I know this doesn’t help but I couldn’t resist doing a bit of a search, I must have a soft spot for rocking chairs…are you sure its for your wife? Will she smoke a pipe in it?

hehe… its for nursing/ breast feeding

this is another option: shelter-systems.com/puzzle-rocker.html

Yup, thats pretty cool.

Can’t you just pay someone to do the breastfeeding thing? It is Asia after all!

You can get a chair to breast-feed? Where does the nipple go? Why can’t she just feed the baby instead? Taiwanese women are strange.

Is it cheaper if we buy two? I believe breast-feeding is going to be a common occurrence in my household also. Especially after the baby comes.

congratulations - altho I think I have already congratulated you over @ parent pages…anyway… the deal with this particular chair is for USD30 and shipping you buy the plans. So you and I could simply split that? Finding a local wood worker to do it might be tough… is that swiss (??) guy still around that maes all his own furniture?

Go over to Nan Chang and Fu Zhou road. The entire block is for maternity. You should be able to find a rocking chair there. Take the MRT to CKS station exit 2, walk two blocks. At the 7 11 turn right and go toward the hospital. Across from the hospital you will see the stores.

Best of luck :rainbow:

These guys have some GREAT furniture!

rattan-master.com.tw/

nama - very familiar with that part of town… but, i am a bit of a snob and find a lot of that stuff tacky and ugly.

teggs - the website lists a china address. do they have a taiwan shop?

Chris H and sandman,

I just want to encourage you on your search for the rocking chairs. From late-night nursing experiences (and soon more to come), it is the one thing I feel missing from my “motherhood” furniture and supplies. Your wives will love them! (If not, let me know and I can take a chair off your hands…) Don’t forget the support pillows.

BTW, a gentleman who makes wooden furniture and interior design is a member of cityplaygroup, you could try asking on the mailing list. I also know a mom who got a rocking chair at the second-hand furniture store in Neihu, right by Costco/B&Q, does anyone know that address, they have a great English book selection there. Alternatively, I have instructions for building a wooden rocking chair, in a woodworking furniture manual, that I can copy for you to take to a local woodworker.

Try the refurbished bicycle and furniture auction - every Saturday 10 am at Zhongshan Football Stadium - on the 2nd tier on the Zhongshan Road side opposite the skateboard ramps. Note down the numbers of the piece(s) of furniture you like and then bid for it in Mandarin and/or Hokkien!

There was a nice rocking chair up for auction when I bought a bicycle there recently.
