Ronald Reagan's Funeral

Very impressive. It was good to see men and women of all political colours gathered under one roof to remember the man, and send him off. Former Prime Ministers Thatcher (UK) and Mulroney (Can) were particularly eloquent in their eulogies. Bush Sr. was surprisingly touching and even humourous at times, and Bush Jr, well, he got through it without flubbing any of his lines. The music was magnificent, and the pomp exactly right. Ceremonies like this reinforce the idea of non-partisan nationhood. Taiwan could use a good dose of what the States has going on.

Compare and contrast to the funeral for Paul Wellstone, which was such a blatantly staged political rally event that it cost the Democrats the election there.
