Roommates and their prostitutes

I feel a little uncomfortable in my living situation because two of my roommates sometimes bring home prostitutes - usually one for the both of them. This makes me think that they can’t be all that happy with the living situation themselves, and would probably prefer not to be living with a middle-aged white woman. However, the odd time when I have obliquely mentioned this to my husband, he just gets annoyed and says there is no problem.
Should I just ignore it? I feel bad for the women - most of them seem to be older than me. But I feel a little uneasy. It also makes me wonder what happens when I am not here, although I trust my husband 100%. Any ideas?

This is a common problem.

Men enjoy bringing home middle-aged prostitutes to share with their roommates.

Ignore it.

I once bought a prostitute for my roommate. Good-looking lad who’d been in Taiwan for a year and had not managed to score. :loco:

The wife and I went half/half because we couldn’t bear to witness his miserable countenance anymore.

Are your roommates Taiwanese and your husband too? There’s something missing in the story here.

That’s just gross. If I was the principle renter I would make it clear this was not acceptable. No need to get into the morality of the issue, simply be clear this is an illegal activity and won’t be tolerated any more than drug use, gambling or what have you.

If I was not the principle renter then I would move. It would creep me out.

I fail to see the difference between bringing home a drunk slag from a bar for a one-night stand and hiring a prostitute to fulfill the same function. They are both, ultimately, going to cost you a few thousand. I feel that your morality is misplaced, O revered Mucha Man.

However, that is at the discretion of the OP. Bababa are you OK with your roomies bringing home women for sex that aren’t prostitutes?

Yes. I would have no problem with the situation if they had girlfriends. Them bringing their girlfriends home (on the few occasions when either one has had one) does annoy my husband, though. It’s funny that I never noticed the dichotomy before - he’s annoyed by the girlfriends, I’m annoyed by the hookers.
(Roommates and husband are all from Africa, BTW.)

Yeah see I’m guessing that in these lads’ culture frequenting of prostitutes is common, open and accepted. But I still think its disrespectful towards you to expose you to it. Why can’t they do it in a love hotel? Although I guess if they’re sharing it might be an economic issue. :2cents:

That doesn’t mean there isn’t a clear and defensible difference, jimmy.

Bringing any stranger home when you are an adult (not a frat boy in college) with roommates is not something to do casually if you have any respect for the people you live with and their right to live peacefully in their own premises. I wouldn’t like the drunk slag being in my house for trust and general safety issues, and a prostitute just accelerates that.

Ask them to stop doing it. If that doesn’t work get back to us.

This is simply going to come down to how much sway the OP has over her husband, who considers it a non-issue. Personally, I’d just move out.

accelerates or exacerbates?

drunken slag or a sex professional…which would you prefer?

I’m still wondering why jimi thinks you’d need to spend a few thousand on the former…or is he quite the old-fashioned gentlemen, lunch at the Savoy and then a night at the opera?

Both if I could have been bothered adding a clause.

Well, I’ve ahem heard from friends that professionals are rarely, if ever, drunk, usually pay more attention to their physical hygiene (necessity of the trade) and always use condoms.

My worldly friends have also informed me that they have NEVER experienced petty theft from a Lady Of The Night, but have woken up on numerous occasions after bedding a Woman Of Fleeting Interest to find valuables stolen from under their very noses. Many of my friends have contracted Nasty Diseases from these Transient Liaisons.

! :noway:
The one thing I could never do is ask my Nigerian roommates to stop bringing hookers into the house.
Maybe my husband would, but I’ve only ever heard him get angry about the girlfriends.

And why, pray tell, is that?

It’s too embarassing. I am not the kind of woman who can nonchalantly discuss prostitution with men I barely know. On forumosa it’s different.
Really, I was wondering mostly if other people also thought the situation was odd; and also wondering if anyone had any ideas about what to do.

Yes, odd, and as for advice, ask your husband to do this. He should be willing given it makes you very uncomfortable to both have prostitutes around and to deal with the matter.

How exciting!! I would really use the opportunity to chat up the prostitutes and ask them all that I wanted to know (and I would love to live with a roommate too). You know make them coffee or whatever if possible. I’ve never met a prostitute, and I’m assuming, most women rarely get to meet them.

I doubt it will help your situation though.

I can understand that it might be disturbing waking up to find strangers in the house in the morning, but if nobody is making a nuisance of themselves, I can’t see how it matters to you whether they are prostitutes, one night stands, or long time girlfriends. To each his own.
