BARK got a call late in the evening on Moon Festival. While everyone was enjoying a BBQ dinner and moon cakes, poor Rosa was squealing in pain. She had been hit by a truck! It broke her jaw and dislocated her front leg and then it drove away…
Some very kind people were witness to the event and immediately took action. They made sure to care for Rosa and make her comfortable and warm. Then they called BARK for assistance.
Rosa was rushed to emergency vet and put on IV. She was sedated and xrays were taken. It was quite obvious that her jaw was broken just from looking at her. Her leg appeared to be broken, too. And we were very unsure about whether she suffered internal injuries or not. So, poor Rosa stayed at the emergency vet for the night for observation.
The next day we took Rosa to our regular vet. She had more x-rays done and it turned out that her jaw was broken in half, lengthwise with a second, smaller fracture further up. She required surgery to re-align her jaw and then staples were put in to hold her jaw in place.
Rosa returned from the vet clinic on Saturday. She’s happy to be resting in the care of BARK. While she was sedated for the jaw surgery, more x-rays were taken of her leg and back. She has a small fracture on her leg and one of the vertabrae in her neck also has a small fracture. Both are expected to heal on their own while she’s resting in BARK’s care. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the vets think she has a torn tendon. That’s actually worse than a broken bone. Broken bones usually mend- tendons, however, often don’t. It’s possible that the tendon could re-attach itself but it’s not looking very positive. Looks like a few months from now Rosa may need another surgery…
Even though her leg and neck must be in pain and her jaw is broken, Rosa still smiles

Poor Rosa. As if things weren’t bad enough that she had a broken jaw and had to go thru surgery for that…
After waiting to see if her leg would recover on it’s own, turns out Rosa has nerve damage and recovering the use of her leg was just a dream. After carefully monitoring Rosa for the last 4 weeks, it was clear that not only did she lose mobility in her leg, her leg was causing her harm. We were hoping she’d be able to keep her leg but she has been dragging it around and worse, chewing at it!
A tough decision was made but it was for the best. Rosa had her leg amputated today. She is now a 3 legged dog with a broken jaw 
The good news is that she is resting comfortably and that her jaw is recovering really well.
And the best news is that her tail is still wagging.

I know Rosa’s jaw is broken, but every time I look at her photo, I can’t help but think she has the best smile.
Man, if I didn’t already have 5 animals in my apartment, I’d totally take her in. She looks precious, but she deserves much more and better care than I would be able to provide.

Rosa is recovering well from her amuptation. In fact, she hasn’t noticed at all, that she is missing a front leg. She had the surgery the morning of Oct 20 and I went to see her that night. She jumped up on me and was wagging her tail! She has such an amazing spirit!
She is terribly thin from this whole ordeal so we are working on fattening her up a bit. She’s enjoying that very much :o)

Rosa has been adopted!!! She will be going to Canada with her new mommy in July. We couldn’t be happier for Rosa!
