About time we made a thread for sevens.
Busy watching the finals of the Las Vegas Sevens. The Americans put together a great tournament. Before the finals the ladies played their Final: China (PRC) vs USA.
The American commentator comments before kick-off, “We want to apologise to the Chinese people beforehand for what our girls are going to do to you today.”
I thought that was a tad premature.
Kick-off

Our Chinese sisters from across the straits win 14 - 0. :roflmao:
Then they started to babble about it being Chinese New Year and neither one of the commentators knew which year it is. It quickly fizzled out from there and they started talking about the four upcoming men’s finals.
Well done ladies! :bravo:
Shield final: Japan vs Scotland
The Japanese start off well by scoring the first try. But from there it went pear shaped for them as the Scots totally dominated the rest of the game to win the Shield 17 - 7.
Bowl Final: USA vs France (with the ref from England… :roflmao: )
The USA played well and won an exciting game 28 - 17. The French gave up easily in the end. Perhaps they thought they were playing Germany…
And then, the Americans started to celebrate as if they had just won the RWC. The commentators start talking about how Sevens have been accepted as an Olympic sport, how serious the US takes the Olympics, and of course…they are the reigning Olympic champions. Never mind that SA, NZ and Aus never played rugby at the Olympics and that it hasn’t been a part of the Olympics since the 1924 games (I think).
After that it really went downhill. The Captain of the US side, who incidentally is also a Saffa expat (perhaps he also makes a living on the side selling boerie 
), waxes lyrical to his team mates and on camera about how they’re all brothers (sounds like someone is trying very hard to fit in) and he wants to propose to his girlfriend and needs their help. What with them winning the Bowl and it being Valentine’s day and all. 
They track her down (all this is going on live on camera and it took about 10 - 15 minutes 
), he proposes, she says yes and they hoist the two of them on their shoulders.
One shudders to think what would happen if they ever win the cup, or something big like the Sevens World Cup or Olympics. 
Plate Final: South Africa vs Fiji
South Africa score two quick tries in the first half to lead 12 - 0 at the break. Early in the second Fiji strike back to make it 12 - 7 to SA. I was expecting SA to choke again and my fears were almost realised when Stick kicked a drop attempt that went wide in the dying moments giving Fiji possession. Fortunately in the counter the Fijians passed forward, the whistle went and SA won the plate. Something at last!
Cup Final: Samoa vs New Zealand
Damn!! The Samoans ripped New Zealand a new one! A complete and total annihilation. Wow! Excellent game. Samoa 33 - 12 New Zealand.
Looks like they’re going to have a crazy party. If so, they’re in the right place.

I want to go to the Vegas 7s - apparently its always around valentines day - how romantic!
HK is not far away - who’s coming? Shall we have a Forumosa get together? Costume?
Going to the Sevens is great fun. The sideshows and all. And the beer. Apart from that, I don’t really like touch rugby.

I’d love to go, but this year is out for me. Maybe next year!
