Russell Brand baptized

If you search out and listen to the live radio recording that was the basis of the investigation against him you might form a different opinion of him. For years he was literally a walking groin within the BBC with license to sexually harass whomever he wanted.

I have no opinion. No idea who he is. Comic? Actor? :man_shrugging:

It’s not necessary to read minds to form a judgement about somebody, just look at their actions and words.

Watched his stuff during covid absolutely remarkable how he shifted to where the $$$ online are now, he wasn’t making much from the hippy yoga stuff at all, much lower viewership. He’s done almost a 180 on what he was before. Well at least 120 degrees anyway.
There’s big money in conspiracy theories and shock value online , gets the hits coming in.
The baptism is just the latest iteration to get attention and it seems to have worked !

Yeah I should stay out of it. I don’t know who he is and I simply don’t care about his religious conversion.

Is he right wing? He does want a ceasefire in Gaza.

You don’t know who he is?

Da fuq?

Should I?

He’s heading right. He was on Tucker Carlson and it was one big love fest.

I don’t know.

How about Vera Lynn?

What has become of her?

He was very left , the darling of the left for a long while. No one at the BBC is right (No one I can ever think of anyway.). If he was right this wouldn’t be news. He got banned from YouTube due to the sexual a ubuse allegations and moved to Rumble. There do seem to be a fair number of sexual offenders at or from the BBC though.
Let’s remember he hasn’t been found guilty yet to my knowledge.

It’s hard to pin down his politics now. Not left wing, a mix of libertarianism and anti big business but starting to veer right wing conspiracy.

Yeah nah, he openly bragged about laying hands on an assistant during a live radio segment.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he was. However, I don’t think in the UK Christianity would lessen the public or media attacks on him.
In the US it might.
I think also there is a lot of confusion between what is right wing or left wing in the UK. The church of England is very left wing these days. In the US I think Christianity is seen very much to the right, with exception s like MILK, Kennedy, Al Sharpton etc.

These terms have almost completely lost their original meanings and are basically just used these days to insult or “other” people. When I were a lad “the left” was all about workers’ rights, free healthcare, and other big social issues. “The right” were about tradition, self-reliance, small government, and economic growth. Neither could have fairly claimed to have all the answers and at least some of the time they had points of agreement. You could call yourself “centrist” and people would know what you meant. In 2024 “the left” believes in censorship, uncontrolled mass immigration, totalitarian-style economic and social surveillance, Climate Change™, dictatorial ‘health’ policies, and the ‘empowerment’ of the self-absorbed and the mentally-ill. Disagree with any of that and you’re “far right” or a “conspiracy theorist”. I don’t think the old-fashioned “right” exists anymore, and there’s really no compromise point between the left and anything else, so the centrists have disappeared too.

So he’s all over the place. That’s fine.

Reminds me of a pick up artist dude that went full hardcore Christian, all he does now is go to church.

Just to preempt, he wasn’t charged with rape because he was a Christian. He became a Christian to try to avoid charges of rape.
