Russia vs. Ukraine 2024/2025

The problem is Westerners are psychologically incapable of not only fighting an insurgent war but even understanding it. That was evident in America’s ignominious retreat from Afghanistan. It had learned nothing at all in Viet Nam.

The Ukrainians will understand it if anyone.

Or Putin dies

I’m not sure that will do it.

Depends on who gets the reins and what they want. But this vanity project has been very expensive for a lot of the Russian elites…

There is a lot happening around this dismissal.
Shoigu had put strong allies in several top positions of Russian army. After his dismissal those were dismissed too. But not just removed, but also criminally charged with :drum: :drum: corruption and jailed.

Shoigu have set up special non army bodyguards to protect them. To arrest them the the FSB had to wait for a moment where they could sneak in from the back door and detain them when those body guards were not close by.
Those Shoigu men had stashed a lot of money overseas, had properties and foreign passports. They were obviously funneling corruption money to their boss Shoigu.

This is not surprising as this is the case of any Russian official. Those charges can be brought up against anyone in Russian government and stick. Here Putin felt that Shoigu was getting too much power in the army, while delivering subpar results. Now Shoigu’s money well dried up. Not to embarrass himself too much and out of long relation ship Putin will let Shoigu ‘retire’ under supervision without throwing him to prison. But that ‘goodwill’ might not last. Shoigu should stay away from windows on high floors.

There are many other lower ranked as well.

Also not surprising those who replace them are from a circle connected to Putins relatives and their in-laws.

War always weeds out the inept and corrupt generals. Once they get younger battle proven guys in there it will be for the best.

Russias biggest problem is the atacms, the crown jewel of USA tactical missiles. Launched in batches of 10 they are nearly impossible to stop.

Russia might need to get the tactical nukes hitting nato deployment centres in poland Germany etc. Or at least start shooting down nato awacs that provide all the targetting data, those things are easy pickings.

Very well said.

Shoigu cultivated a friendship with putin. It would appear this clouded putins judgement.

Shoigu is a very calculating political creature, unfortunately he just is not very capable at the actual job he was supposed to do.

Possibly, but I think Putin didn’t want to get rid of Shoigu when it appeared he was being pressured to do so. Suggests weakness.

A nuclear attack on a NATO country is the last thing he needs to do

Lol nato is already well involved.

Problem is nato/ukraine are going after russia strategic early warning systems. Russia may have no choice but to hit first and hit hard.

Supplying arms and maybe intel, ok. But not their soldiers, or jets, or nuclear weapons. you must be able to see the difference, right?

They could choose to end the war, stop invading. Peace has always been an option, just not the one Vlad prefers
