Salvation is by faith alone, but?

It’s a buffet. Take what you need and leave the rest. I find being of service to be highly rewarding in a philosophical sense.

I don’t do spirit and am not seeking salvation so it works for me.

That’s half the battle!

Good luck. :four_leaf_clover:

A good explanation of where people like Abraham went after he died before Jesus’ sacrifice.

Is this gonna be on the test? I can’t get over his shirt.

An interesting view that will probably make sense to people with technical knowledge

If God is good/love, why is there evil in the world? This woman answers this question.

“Every law that comes from God centers love.” Is that true?

Taoism answers that better than most other religions: yin/yang. The concept of good has no meaning unless contrasted with evil. Just as beauty cannot be defined unless in relation with ugliness; tall/short, life/death, any other pair.

It’s all relative. Less evil would be better

So if a guy pulls an eight-year-old into the bushes and rapes, tortures and murders her, that’s a consequence of his rebelling against God. And the little girl being raped, tortured, and murdered is a consequence of her rebellion against God. Got it.

It’s a byproduct of free will. We are free to follow God, or not. Those who choose to be evil chose to follow their animal instincts rather than exercise their free will to disobey it.

You can’t assume that anything bad happens is because of God, you also can’t assume that everything created is “perfect”. God didn’t say on the 7th day that everything is perfect, he said it’s “very good”.

We have animal instincts, for self preservation, but we’re free to not follow them, but sadly most people do not. This creates evil.

That explains all the horseshit then, huh?

And who created animals and those instincts? God, that’s who. That’s why the concept of original sin is so troubling for many people. For the crime of being born and doing what we have to do to survive, we are condemned to Hell by default? Doesn’t that seem to remove free will from the equation? Because Christianity does not say that we choose to be good or evil; we are evil from the day we are born. Take lusting in my heart, for example - is anyone going to argue that I have any free will about that? Lust isn’t even just a thought crime, it’s an uncontrollable instinct that completely bypasses thought in less than the span of second. If the Bible said that it’s OK to have those feelings but not OK to always act on those feelings of lust, anger, jealousy, greed, sloth, the 7 deadly sins - that is reasonable. But the Bible says that even having those natural, God-created sins is a sin itself.

And yes, God created Evil. Who else did? God created All.

Did God create itself , if so who created the itself.

Yes, you are right the bible says thought crime in some instance is as bad as acting on it. That’s why they encourage people not to read or look at anything like porn.

A young man with a vision.
If we see news relating to this in the future, you will know that this young man’s vision was from God.

No, we won’t. Just looking at this example, there are many reasons such events could occur, and many have speculated on them.

James 2 14-26 was one of the readings at church this past Sunday. It got me to wondering. Is the Book of James not in the Bible of those who believe salvation is by faith alone?

Faith and Works.*

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?i

15 If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day,

16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?j

17 So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 Indeed someone may say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.

19 You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble.

20 Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?

22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works.

23 Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.”l

24 See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

25 And in the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route?m

26 For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

That book is in protestant bibles too.

However some evangelicals seem to think that salvation gives them the right to be assholes and act like people of Sodom and Gomorrah.

If you want to know what their sin is, Ezekiel says it… it’s not what you think it is.

I thought the Russkies were Christians? Wrong kind, I guess, even if they do hate gays, too.
If they do push the button, I don’t think we’re going to be seeing very much news- a blinding flash, maybe.
