OECD keeps economic data on Taiwan. That would be a good place to look. The CIA fact book also has information on Taiwan
I dunno if this is right, but my girlfriend keeps telling me that some banks including HSBC are paying around 3 - 5% for a 3 month timed deposit. That works out as 12 - 20% a year.
Now, I am deeply sceptical of this, and am trying to find out the details. But if it is true, that’s where I’m putting my dosh for now.
Anybody else heard of these rates?

I’m not sure of what ‘OECD’ or where to check them out. Any pointers?
The rates of personal and national savings are often used as indicators of a country’s economic health.

Chiu wrote a book back in 1992 with the personal savings rates of all east asian countries in it (including taiwan) he lists the oecd has his source.

You also should look at these sites:
I find almost all of my TW economic data from these sites.
Barring a bloomberg terminal, these will give you good info…such as savings rates (which are around 22% in 2005, down from the high 30% range of 10 to 15 years ago)
