Scrap Sierra Engine?

I should have a bit of spare time (university vacation) in about a month, and I’m wondering about the practicality of repair or replacement of my Sierra engine (2L DOHC)

Bad things happened and I think (from the sound, though I’m not expert in interpreting those) that its pretty comprehensively knackered. I expect some bearings and the crank to be scored, though I won’t know for sure unless/until its stripped.

In the UK I’d look for a used/scrap engine to swap-in, but I understand changing the engine number here is a big, and costly, administrative hassle.

I could still maybe use a scrap engine as a source of parts, though that means stripping two engines and, given that it’s a Ford, some components (eg stretchy head-bolts) may not be re-usable.

Anybody know anything about the scrap engine market here? Given the administrative hassle, they should be cheap, but if there’s no market for them they might not be available.
