I’m thinking of getting rid of my car. Do you know of any scrapyards/mechanics/backyard mechanics/hobbiests who will be interested in buying it? Has anyone (in any area) sold a vehicle in this way before? Any hints?
No idea, drive around along back roads … you’ll find what you’re looking for …

I’ve sold broken large appliances and even worn out furniture but got no more than NT$50-300. I know a few people who would probably take it for free but that’s about all Cars do definitely get sold for scrap here though and I suggest maybe looking in the yellow pages for a local yard.
I think I know where one is in Longtan. I’ll have to check my map for the road name, or I could just show you myself (I live in Longtan).
Old iron and steel, stainless, metals fetch high prices at the moment due to high demand in China …
saffies - best i know of is a scrapyard at the end of da yo road in taoyuan. turn left at the holiday hotel, and you’ll see it on your left after 500 m or so …
There are scrapyards all over Taiwan. If you can’t be arsed to first take it to a testing place in order to get in de-registered, then get some scrapyard people to pick it up, I suggest that you talk to your friendly local mechanic. He will set it all up, including the pickup of the thing, and it takes him a phone call.
I scrapped the blue bomb myself (In Yangmei, next to longtan).
I went ot a testing place with all the documentation I could think of, paid some money, then the scrappers came and paid NT$3k to me, and a fw months later I got a government cheque on some NT$3000 in the mail.
(You also get tax and insurance money back).
As far as I know, the govt cheque was discontinued on January 1, 2007, so I was told that i was lucky when I got a mechanic to scrap blue bomb II in December.
I would just ask my local mechanic to help me.

Just remember that all taxes, fines and tickets must be paid before you can officially “Bao fei” the vehicle. If you are looking for a quick way to dump the car without paying the taxes, it can’t be done.
The Yangmei scrapyard is only about 15-20 minutes from your place.
Well, yes, that should be obvious. I first paid outstanding taxes and fines, and then I later got some money back. That was the way it was done.
Note that if you are to baofei your vechicle, evey mechanic wiould love to help you out for a few hundred NT.
