Screw the nano!
yo but who wants to be normal! like whatever!

The most important thing you can learn in life is learning how to love.
If you are start loving your iPod, either that will give a fantastic home video to share, or hell yeah, that is not normal.

Sorry, you walked right into that one.

I agree with Tetsuo, no point in buy new iPods every couple of weeks. Stevie is pushing it a little. Mine is a model 2.0 or maybe 1.0, lost track, anyway, a couple of years old, and still stores the same amount of music, and even still plays it. No reason to get a new one.

HOWTO Rip DVD Movies To Your iPod

 I’ll bet you a beer. The new iPod sounds better than your iRiver.
Does the new iPod sound a lot better than the old one? Because I got rid of my old one in favor of the iRiver for the functions, but was surprised to find that the sound quality was leaps and bounds better than the iPod.

And anyway, I don’t drink beer.

This is something I don’t understand.

WHY do so many people seem to be all “Oh holy shit new iPod must get rid of current, perfectly functional, not-broken-or-anything iPod I only bought a few weeks ago!”?
You’re right, it’s sickening :loco: My wife definitly don’t understand me. But I am a Mac fan and I love gadgets, plus I like to have the new stuff, so I don’t mind buying and selling…
Wanna get my 60G?

Supposedly the sound quality has been improved. I doubt there is a discernible difference in sound quality between the iRiver and the iPod, neither of which are designed for high end audio anyway.

To my ears, there’s quite a lot of difference. That’s with the same Sony earplugs, btw. It seems some other users have noticed a difference as well.

The worst thing about the iRiver is it’s lack of style, but I bought it to listen to music and watch things, not look good. My old iPod was always in a carrying case anyway so it’s about the same, looks-wise.

 I think what there’s only a truly new iPod design maybe every 18 months? They do innovate more than any other company. And they were voted the number one creative company in America.

Apple always amazes me with their design. They won 3 of out 6 industrial design awards at the last D&ADs. Jonathan Ive also picked up the President’s Award.

I’m confused?

iPod Mini - July 2004
iPod Photo - October 2004
iPod Shuffle - Jan 2005
iPod Nano - Sept 2005
Video iPod - Oct 2005

That’s a damn sight quicker than 18 months.

Yes, you are. I don’t actually watch things on it, I just listen to music, but it makes a great place to store photos and other data, like when my camera’s CF card is full, for example.

different products, different market segments

I like the iRiver 340. I almost bought one the other day but opted for the Cowon x5l. It’s great. It’s nice to see that not everyone has bought into the iPod thing. iPods are okay but I think other players are better. They have more features, better sound. instead of being trapped into itunes you can use other music services and converters, and basically you have a lot more control over your player.

Where did you get it?

Yeah. I mis-remembered their general product cycle for computer updates.

For iPod, they pretty much have 3 models. The updates to each model don’t happen that often. about 1 year apart for updates to the mini and then slightly less than a year before the nano. The iPod has only had about 5 updates, generally spaced more than a year apart.

Hidden in the small print of the iPod 5 announcement was news that Apple have finally allowed the iPod to record audio properly. Previous models had a 8khz (telephone quality) cap on recording. iPod Linux proved that the machine was perfectly capable of recording in mono at up to 96khz (pro quality), and now we can all do 44.1khz (CD quality - but this might be compressed) stereo recording.

I wouldn’t use the iPod for field recordings but in a pinch …

Where did you get it?
A couple of places in Nova, Taipei have it but I found it for a bit cheaper in a store just past the main post office on Zhong Xiao Rd (I think it’s Zhong Xiao-it’s the road that the train station and Mitsukoshi are on). You need to cross the big street just after the post office (I forget the name). Walk past the camera shop on the corner (stay on Zhong Xiao) and it’s the first music player shop you come to. It’s only about 3 metres, if that, after the camera shop. They have the Cowon displayed in the window.

Sorry about forgetting all the street names
