Scsi drivers

I’ve been trying to get my cd/r drive to work since I installed windows xp, but aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh !
The device is working properly but the driver isn’t. The driver in question is a tekram DC-315. I’ve been to their website and installed the drivers from there, but there doesn’t appear, to me, to be a way to actaully install it. It was working perfectly well before.
Should I a) spend several more hours getting extremely frustarted ?,
b) sleep on it and get some advice from more knowledgable friends tomorrow ?, or
c) chuck the f-----g thing out the window, hopefully hitting the barking dog ?.

That came out a bit confused, I think you kept saying “driver” when you meant “card” And what device is working ? The card or the CDR ?

You should have downloaded a .zip file, open that, and open the XP folder. And double click on the .inf file.
If that doesn’t work, use the add hardware thing in control panel, and when it asks for a disk, give it the location of the .inf file.

thanks for the help. Followed your suggestions , couldn’t do it and chose option c. Missed the dog unfortunately…

I opened the folder in question and windows tells me it contains no data and sent me off ao a wild f-----g goose chase…around various sites …

Your current situation is a bit unclear. Was it working perfectly fine before with Windows XP? Do you know if XP tried to autodetect and install the device? Do you seen any devices under Device Manager that have a red x?

Go to Control Panel -> System and click on the Hardware tab and then Device Manager. Click the + next to SCSI and RAID controllers and see if the card is installed. If it isn’t, look for a device with a red X (It should be pretty obvious) and update the driver if it looks like the card.
