this is a place I wish I’d known about when I needed it.
the market sells furniture (chairs, tables, berds, cupboards) from about NT$300 as well as bicycles from NT$50, including some old bone breaker farmers’ bikes with rod brakes and dual replacable crossbars for when you need to take the prize sow to market. Then there are fans and other simple electrical goods modern and ‘classic’ at giveaway prices.
It’s run by the EPA. They collect stuff that’s been dumped, clean it up and repair it before selling it. There should be a lot on offer over the next few weeks as they work through the New Year furniture glut.
The market is held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (I think) and (definitely) Saturday at the football stadium on Chungshan Road. Entrance near the SE corner. Nearest MRT is Yuanshan I reckon.
Do they sell cubicles? If not does anyone know where to buy a cubicle? Maybe someones office in Taiwan is buying new ones, thus they want to get rid of the older ones, please let me know.
if you throw out a cubicle they’ll probably sell it, yes. But I didn’t see any on Saturday. I have seen cubicles for sale (new) on the furniture street. (Wenchang Street)
Nan Chang Rd is new furniture. For 2nd hand (and cheaper new) furniture, definitely including office fuirniture and cubicles, go to Xiamen St and Chung Ching Rd, under and around the Zhong Zheng Bridge to Yong He, just off Heping W Rd (a few small blocks W or Roosevelt).
I went to the furniture market at the soccer stadium. Actually, it is an auction that is held every Saturday at 11:00. Each week, you can check out the furniture that will be auctioned off on Sat. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. There are usually about 50 pieces of furniture for auction each week including couches, wardrobes, cabinets, dining room sets and that sort of thing. Haven’t woken up in time to catch an auction yet so I know how cheap stuff goes for.
Since this seems to be the furniture thread, does anyone know where I could get furniture reupholstered? You’ve guessed it - the puppies decided to sink their teeth into our settee, which is made of a steel frame with foam block filling and a PVC cover. My anger is somewhat diminished because the couch was a bit worn already. I don’t think I could patch it myself. I am the sort of person who would rather get things repaired, even if buying a new or second hand one would be cheaper.
Juba I don’t know the exact address but there is a place on Fuxing North Road just up from the intersection at Zhongxiao. Start at the Zhongxiao-Fuxing MRT station walk up Fuxing on the west side (the opposite side of Breeze). Somewhere in the next few blocks (before you arrive parallel to Breeze) is a furniture upholster. Yiu can’t miss it as the shop is open to the street.
Also, many of the furniture shops in Tienmu along Zhong Shan North Road do upholstery though I don’t know if they would redo a couch that they didn’t sell you.
There’s a place on Taishun Jie, a couple of doors north of the intersection with Xinhai Lu. They’re always working on couches. They probably do it to sell, but you could ask if they’d fix for you.
Some time ago I read about a government furniture store that you could donate old furniture you didn’t want to and they fixed it up and sold it. Does anyone know about this and can you tell me how to find it? I tried a search but didn’t come up with anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Any ideas besides tealit and taiwanted?[/quote]
the whole dingzhou street/xiamen street area behind gongguan is given over to 2nd hand furniture…you can get some great bargains there plus they will deliver job lots…
There are a couple of places in Xindian’s Old Bitan Street.
A suggestion: check out the new furniture places. Usually, they have good bargains, and with the “economy as it is”, they may throw in free delivery as well.
ps.
You might wait and see if there is anything available as people throw old stuff away on Chinese New Year. That’s how I got most of my stuff, and I am just getting around to throwing away all my “previously thrown furniture”. Seriously.
