Second Job with Normal ARC

Hi hi. I know this is a repeated question. But can somebody tell me if I plan to have a second job, do I need to tell my first employer? Some people say yes, some say no need.

What are the rules for getting the second job with ARC? I work full time at a company, and am planning to be a Research Assistant at a university.

First read the contract for your current job, what does it say about having other employment?
Then ask the second job if they can sponsor you for a second work permit (if you need one)

Your ARC is sponsored by your employer. AFAIK it’s illegal to get a second job.

What do you mean by if I need a second work permit? So it’s not necessary?

I don’t think it’s illegal. In the booklet of Ministry of Labor, it says: If the foreigner needs to work for a second employer, the second employer would be required to apply for another permit.

It isn’t. They need a work permit from second employer. Otherwise how do all those cram school teachers get a second permit to teach at other locations with a different company?

Yes you need a second work permit sponsored by the university.

Ah I see~ Is there any maximum working hour? I heard it’s like 46 hours (based on max overtime hours in Taiwan)?

I mean, you might already have open work permit if you are married to a Taiwanese person or something, but looks like you don’t

Oh, right, I only have a normal ARC with working permit~~

I’m no doubt behind the times, but teachers used to be allowed two additional part time (8 contact hours) gigs. IIRC this was introduced to help buxiban owners get teachers. I presume the rule applies similarly with other jobs?

Could you define what you consider a ‘normal ARC’? An ARC is an ARC.

It’s presumably employer sponsored.

Yeah, I don’t know how else to say it. ARC by working permit, I guess? Not by marriage, or from other sources.

Employer sponsored ARC does the job.

If it’s an employment based ARC then you can work of employers not on your ARC but you need a work permit for each job.

It is legal to get a second work permit and work that job.
