SeedNet's NNTP server - problems

For some reason, starting a few days ago I have been unable to see the latest Usenet posts through SeedNet’s NNTP server (news.seed.net.tw), with the excetption of a certain Taiwan-based newsgroup. Is anyone else having this problem? (I know I can use Google Groups, but I prefer reading the newsgroups on my newsreader.)

They probably had quake related download problems …

No…the problem started around the 23rd.

They removed the groups from their server due to lack of interest … happened in the past

Are you sure? These are major groups (e.g. talk.politics.misc, alt.atheism and talk.origins). In such a case they’d essentially remove all newsgroups.

I just sent them an email asking what’s going on, but with my luck receiving responses to emails from big companies…

Man, Usenet is so passé.

Still, aren’t there other public news servers you can use? That the local ones are no good is hardly surprising.

Yet millions use it daily.

Suggestions are welcome. (Other than, say, Google Groups, which forces me to publicize my gmail address.) I want to be access it through my newsreader rather than a web browser for speed and convenience.

Problem solved (not SeedNet’s problem, but my problem):

I got an account through TeraNews. Now I can read any newsgroup I want!
