Hi, a friend and I are trying make our way to and back from Green Island and unfortunately we’re new to Taiwan and didn’t know to book train tickets early enough. I’ve found a chartered bus going down to Taitung Thursday night, but it’s going back to Taipei Sunday night and we want to stay longer than that. So I thought I’d throw this out there and see if anyone who has a car and is driving from Taitung to Taipei on Tuesday (morning preferably, but we’re really not picky), is willing to accept passengers. We’d be happy to foot the whole fuel-bill for the trip.
I find it difficult to believe that there aren’t regular buses to and from Taidong every day of the week. I’d check again if I were you. The other cities have buses leaving every 20 minutes or so usually, and I’m sure Taidong’s no different.

I went down earlier today to get train tickets from Taidong to Yilan for 10/9 and the guy told me to go back tomorrow since they weren’t selling them yet.
I suggest you try asking again tomorrow.
Most of the buses on the east coast are local buses. I can’t recall ever seeing a bus with a sign that said Taibei -> Taidong.
you can go via gaoxiong with guoguang (king bus). long trip tho
