Seem to anyone else that restaurants now think they're doing us a favor by letting us eat there?

I’ve had nothing but bad experiences eating out for the last two weeks. Right after things reopened, service was poor but the servers seemed glad that someone was braving the horrible BatBug to give them an opportunity to work.

Now that people are starting to go out again, though, every place I’ve gone to has been a pain in the ass. One of my longterm favorites first waitlisted me for an hour, then stalled on seating me for 20 minutes (the girl went around to all the empty tables and checked their place settings instead), then ignored me for another 20 minutes before she came back to take my order, and after I finally got my food and had eaten almost all of it she came over to yell at me that they were closed and to get out. The other times I’ve been there recently were less rude but still rude.

Note, the empty tables were not because of “social distancing”, she was just ignoring me. People were seated at ALL of the tables by closing time.

Back in January 2020, when this place was practically empty, I started going there regularly, and the HBIC was nearly crawling at my feet to thank me for showing up. I’m not asking to be sucked up to, but I am really hating the new attitude that they just don’t want to deal with little old me.

That’s on top of the dystopic plastic sheets straddling the tables, the “you can’t get a refill on your soda”, and the ingredient shortages that leave half the menus unavailable.

I haven’t had any problems. But the seating seperately, or eating behind a plastic barrier rule is daft and does absolutely nothing.

Keeping tables of different groups further apart–sure, I can see the point. But people dining together likely spend a bunch of time near each other anyway.

Where are you eating?

What kind of vibe are you bringing?

At least in my travels, I’ve found that courtesy is usually reciprocated. And if the service attitude is sour, then well lots of other places to go to!

Guy

I haven’t even bothered eating out yet. It’s too farcical.

Eating together, sharing food and passing it around the stupid plastic barriers is just silly. In the pub last Friday we just pushed the damned things to the end of the table. Just more plastic crap for tomorrow’s landfill.

They only take 2 million years to break down, no biggie.

So they should last for the duration of the pandemic then, that’s cool.

Ah sucks for you guys. Down here in the industrial/country-side the dinner condoms disappeared weeks ago.

It’s so dumb since if they use AC or even just have people breathing in a closed space, covid goes everywhere. Dumb security theatre

And yet in many towns in the countryside they didn’t open to indoor diners or opening up sparsely. I know from my travels.

Here’s another thing that really bugs me.
B and B owners almost all cancelled the provision of breakfast giving covid as the ubiquitous excuse.

What a lazy greedy bunch !

Covid has been used as a convenient excuse for bad service and saving money.

Which variant of Covid 19 will we be on by then my Greek alphabet is not that good.

Must be a pain if you can’t eat in your accommodation and can’t eat in local restaurants. What are you supposed to do? Buy an onigiri from 7-11 and eat it in the bushes while looking over your shoulder?

This virus has been an environmental catastrophe. Imagine the mountains of disposed face masks produced by Taiwan each week. Especially with the religious fervour we have for them here.

This thread is turning into comedy gold!

I have found some restaurants around my area which doesnt give a shit about plastic barriers and everyone there is eating like normaly. No one is complaining about them so they are thriving.

I was hiking on Sunday, people were generally just wearing them on their necks. Probably older people who have been double jabbed. However, i feel the world over people are getting tired of them. There will come a time when a certain percentage of each countries’s populations are vaccinated and face masks will be done with.

You go to a breakfast place and take back . This was during level 3 bit even during level 2 many B&Bs continue with this farce.

Because they have got used to being really lazy and don’t want to cook breakfast anymore . And some of them are greedy too.

Even before that more than half were just getting the breakfast from local breakfast places.

I’m already over the outdoor masks. Sick to death of them. There comes a stage when you have to say F this …Close to two years now.

You are double jabbed too. Wearing them in the mountains with a few people around is getting a bit OTT. Eventually there has to be a time when we are just going to have to live or die with this. Probably on public transport they should still be compulsory , but private businesses should soon be able to make their own call. More likely to die of Giant Hornets where I was hiking than a flying bat virus particle. :grinning:

Where is Taiwan greenpeace on this stuff? I think it would be good for someone with the, dare I say this dreadful word, agency, to raise awareness on all of the Covid waste. Corporations will always exploit the current environment for their own bottom line, so Formosa Plastics is loving this, and no one is going to reign them in except people actually giving a shit.
