So, to tie this thread off for a while, we put off the land quest as getting skunked on the lot that I really wanted stung and then we had family issues to deal with.
We switched the filter on the real estate site and chose “rental house” and within 5 minutes found an actual house, on the hill, a short drive north of Taitung. One with a gated 250 ping lot which needs a bit of TLC as the last renters, and the landlord apparently don’t know how to keep a house or maintain a yard. (I just cleaned the gutters which were full of dirt and roots and growing plants.) n00bs
We will continue to look for suitable farmland and will update when that happens. From what I hear, land prices will be dropping due to the earthquake.
Fine by me.
Thanks for all the input. This has been quite educational.
The short story is the land was 756 ping and the property line was on the road, which, in two years, could might probably would have sunk our house build due to the land not actually being 756 ping.
Agent should’ve known, probably did, and let it go right up to the point where I was reaching for my checkbook.
I’ll go with it’s the roads. Some roads are wide enough to be figured into the equation. Some are narrow farmers roads.
But, the agent should have know better. She just wanted to see if we’d go through with it knowing the possibility of not being able to build out a house. she was incorrect.
I don’t trust these guys at all. We had a very stressful issue when making our first apartment purchase. In the end, everything worked out, but really, our agent was VERY unscrupulous.
I guess there are some tricks that buyers can use, but I can’t remember what they are. Something about getting a third, neutral party involved, I think it was.
