I’m looking for suggestions on selling a used Toyota Vios 2005 in Hsinchu County. Searching this forum has not led to much information. Thanks in advance
From our experience in trying to sell an older car you will not get much response from Taiwanese, even if the car is very low mileage (Toyota Cefira). We decided to keep it in the long run, as the prices offered were ridiculously low. We had all the up-to-date maintenance papers, etc…
but the simple fact the car is around the same year as yours, meant to many people that it was just too old to pay any fair $$ for.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m thinking it would be a good first car for a new driver.
Back in the day I paid 100k for a used Ford in worse condition.
Is there anything like Kelly Blue Book to get a target asking price? Thanks in advance
I’d put it on Facebook Marketplace and also post it in the foreigners/expat Facebook groups in Taiwan. A cheap older Toyota Vios is exactly the sort of car a lot of foreigners look for here, especially if it’s reliable and has been known to pass MOT inspections.
Also, maybe asking price is too high how much are you wanting for it?
Yeah, c123’s response is spot on. I think you’ll have more luck pooling from the expat crowd than the local Taiwanese. For whatever reason, Taiwanese are not big on buying things that can be termed as “used”.
Car passed inspection in August. New radiator and front tires in July. 90% service done by Toyota dealership. No accidents. Kept in carports. Two owners in same family. 213k km. Asking 100k NT. Constructive comments welcome.
Thats a higher price if you want sell faster need lower price, I see some at 69000,
Thanks Connie. That’s helpful.
@sulavaca (website link in his profile) might be able to help sell, or at least give input on price.
He runs a “western standard oriented” car inspection shop in Taipei. If your car is maintained this way he might even know interested buyers.
You can use AI search to figure the price and a lot of this stuff out.
That car is ancient and a basic Toyota, high mileage , it’s frankly worth much less than 100k. Unless you throw in some electronics kit and upgrades it’s not going to fetch much. Parts will wear out all over the car at that age.
Bring down the price and sell it to another foreigner on Facebook marketplace.
Personally I wouldn’t buy a basic car that is 20 years old for more than 50 k, maybe even less, although Toyota is more reliable than others.
Price Breakdown & Market FactorsLow-end / High mileage / Project cars: NT$48,000 – NT$70,000Average market price (Good commuter condition): NT$80,000 – NT$110,000Well-maintained / Lower mileage / Special trims (like Z or well-kept private sales): NT$120,000 – NT$150,000+
Thanks for the info but I live in Hsinchu.
So just to confirm, your opinion is on top. Thanks.
And the AI result is below? Thanks again.
Yeh when people say their car has a new radiator right before selling it always raises suspicions… ![]()
This is with a car dealer too… so would be preferable to buying privately from a buyers perspective
Vios is no longer for sale.
