Just because a potato or other tuber is grown in the soil, does it necessarily accumulate more of the residual contaminants than something else like a peach in the open air?

Yes generally it does. The contaminants can mostly be washed off the surface with water with products grown in the open air.
That comes from my farming knowledge when i worked in agricultural science. It was widely accepted as fact although I’ve never looked up the papers on it, so I just went and checked online for you

Found some, I’m told that if it says 100% then it is reliable. I believe something different.
