We are paying a little over 1,000 for TV + internet, and then phones pay as you go but with no internet. Feel like there must be a better deal though

Just so you know (and you should confirm), your son might have to be registered with a nearby public school, in order to do PE things or whatnot. I knew a family of 2 that had to do it (unless regulations have changed in last 5 years).
There is some thread here on homeschooling (which you may have already checked), or you can google. Very doable in Taiwan.
Make sure he learns Mandarin somehow.
You will like Taiwan.
Myself and my wife are both Canadian, so he doesn’t have to register with a local school, but we might do it regardless for gym class and the like for some socializing.
We have started with some Mandarin basics already, and we plan to get a tutor for him and my wife eventually.
