Do any of you own a titanium road frame which you have purchased in Taiwan? I’m looking for information about which brands are available here, as well as a list of prices or any other information you may have on the matter. I was shopping around for road bike frames on Ebay when I came across a listing for a Taiwan-made titanium frame by TACC. My guess is it’s a Taizhong-based OEM manufacturer who badge-engineers bikes for other companies, but I’ve looked for a website or other info and turned up nothing. I like the look and geometry of the bike, but have no other basis for comparison. If you have seen, ridden, or own one of these yourself, please share your impressions.

Yes, they do great custom jobs. If you want to order one of their frames and need an intermediary, I can hook you up with a shop which will take care of it all for you.

the website has them at over 6kgs, all in (excluding pedals, I suspect). that’s pretty great. the tubing seems very thin (at 4mm), but must be quite strong. I wonder how they compare to ther materials. Only saving grace/problem is that I don’t like the look of the geometry…
I have to admit I think it looks nice but would prefer the 931. Neither will be a touch on carbon for stiffness (if the frame is laid-up properly). Still, I like metal bikes I find them very appealing for some reason whereas carbon doesn’t excite me as much. The reality is that a comparable [in price and quality] carbon bike rides like a dream too, maybe better and is certainly stiffer.
The Rikulau site has a great menu of steel in addition to their titanium offerings.
I got in touch with their sales rep, a guy named Chengnon. I pressed him for MSRP prices on the Master and Protege road frames, but only after several inquiries did I get the info I wanted. He gave me a dealer location here in the gritty city. They kept pushing the Master frame on me, but without offering any details I could use. My sense is they’re trying to unload them, as Chengnon finally fessed up that he rides a Protege, and that he only had one 56cm Protege frame left.
So finally, here’s the skinny:The Protege titanium frame is 42,000. It’s 50,000 with an Easton SL90 fork.
What’s your beef with the geometry, if I may ask? Personally, I’d be happier with a slower head tube angle, but I welcome your perspective on the matter.
I’ve also got some price info on Van Nicholas, but I still don’t know who their local OEM is. Could be China, but I was under the impression that it’s still in the Taizhong area.
An interesting nexus is that ORA, the OEM for Motobecane’s very popular team titanium bikes, handles Rik’s custom work.
As for Van Nicholas, my LBS gave me prices for the Euros and Chinook.
Euros (frame only) 29,000
Chinook (frame only) 42,000.

I love the clear coat finish on those Speedone bikes. It makes it look like some kind of previously-unknown alloy made by the Borg.
I especially dig their Columbus XCr frame.

I’ve seen this bike. It’s very nice. Better than all the ones we’ve been talking about in terms of stiffness. Sadly my pocket and the fact I’m a medium means it’s a no go for me. Otherwise a super bike at a good price.
