should i buy a juicer in canada…or in taipei?
Taiwan.
There are plenty of appliance stores around and you don’t need to pack such a bulky item.
What’s a “Juicer?”
I assume you’re speaking of vegetable juicers. In the US I have a Champion juicer, which is an amazing beast. It’s built like a tank including the engine. It can grind anything with ease and will outlive me. I periodically get really healthy with my diet and at those times the juicer is fantastic. One glass of juice might contain all the nutrients from four sticks of celery, a couple of carrots, an apple, etc., and it tastes great. The downside is that it gets to be a hassle preparing the veggies and cleaning up afterwards. Cracking open a beer is easier. Further, there’s no way in hell I would’ve considered bringing that thing with me – it must weigh at least 30 pounds.
I bought a cheap juicer here – a Phillips – and it’s a piece of crap by comparison. The engine is puny and slows down when pressured and the design is lousy compared to the Champion, allowing large chunks of unground-up, perfectly good veggies to be spit out into the pulp bin. The Champion, on the other hand, is very well designed and grinds every morsel of the veggies completely.
So, to answer your question, if you’re serious about juicing, I wouldn’t get anything but a Champion, but there are some health food stores in Taiwan where you should be able to find one. I believe department stores sell mostly inferior ones.
Would love to have one here. But the clean up! The ants would have a great time if I was but a little bit lazy.
You’ll pay an arm and a leg for a good one here (that’s assuming you’re looking to get a good one). There are cheap ones that go for around 3000 NT and work fairly well. We’ve been using ours on a daily basis for almost a year…there are stupid warnings like, “don’t operate the motor for over 1 minute or it may burn out” though. Got it in one of the dept stores where they do those demos.
