Should I hold my Breath?

Howdy y’all. I have been searching the forums and they have made me increasingly worried about my agent getting me the pay she is promising teaching English in Taiwan.
She says she is negotiating with the school and is trying to get me US$ 45,000 a year. But after searching the forums it seems like the most newbie teachers are getting is NT$ 80,000 a month, which is closer to US$ 31,000 a year. The position is teaching High School English Language and Lit, and I have a BA in English teaching, a few years experience, and a valid teaching certificate. I am not greedy, I just have a family that I would like to take with me to Taiwan.
Soooo, is that kind of salary even a remote possibility?

Around NT$112,500/month teaching English only at a high school? Not possible.

When you adjust for the lower tax bracket and ppp (purchasing power) a $45k us job is equal to a $70,000NT/month job in Taiwan.

It is only when you exhibit a taste for western products and lifestyles that your money disappears quickly.

with two years experience, you might be able to pull $80k / month.

T

It’s very unlikely you’ll get 80,000 a month, especially in schools. Not impossible, just unlikely. Do you have EFL qualifications? You could try British Council if you want 80,000.

You will no way make close to $45,000 USD a year. I am also a teacher with credentials with a 6 years experience. I work 12 hours a day and make less than 70,000 NT after tax a month. Plus pay is only 9 months out of the year. The other three months are “vacation” time where the pay is half or the pay is nothing at all. You will barely be breaking 30,000 USD a year. (Which is considered a good salary here)
