Show me the money!

Not quite sure what to make of this. The US Government is mulling the idea of sending families a check in order to jump start consumer spending.

It seems like a good idea but will it work in practice?

He did it in 2001. Checks of $300 per adult. That was credited with keeping the ecconomy from a more serious down turn, even withe the 9/11 attacks just after the checks were mailed. The problem is, though, that the trully poor don’t qualify for the checks because their income isn’t hight enough. They are the ones who would put the funds out the quickest because they have need to great to every hold onto any cash. And this needs to be a very quick thing, I understand. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

George Bush is an asshole. If he wasn’t an asshole he would give more money to fewer people, the ones who really need it.

Personally, I don’t see measures like this as really helping, at least in the long term. It seems to me kind of like taking an equity loan for a quick cash infusion to ride through a cash flow problem–you really have a bigger problem later. But I’m no kinda expert with money. And George Bush is a guy trying to leave his presidency and party looking good. But I could use a check.

You seem to be torn.

The money is not coming from Bush, it’s coming from the Federal Government. Feel better now? It’s tax payer money.

Personally, I don’t like it. People should stop spending money they don’t have and buying houses they can’t possibly afford. If I were living in the States now, I would be raging about bailing out numbskulls again and again who can’t seem to get their tiny minds around economics 101.

The answer to jump start the economy is not to spend more, but to pay off your bloody bills. But that’s just not sexy.

“HERE! Go buy that Wii.”

Well, yeah, I believe that’s what I was saying. But I could use the check and I don’t get to make the choice so . . . .

I thinkin’ $1,800 bucks and the Indian Casino might be a good match.

I suppose at some point somebody should point out “the irony” (not necesarily to be confused with “the horror”) of the fact that after eight years of giving tax breaks to the rich the cure for the economy is a socialist measure like this one, hahahaha and all that…

Yes, bob, I love you more and more. Will you marry me?

Is there a tax benefit?

To having two wives, I mean…

I need all the help I can get.

That is possibly the dumbest economics idea i’ve ever heard of. Can anyone here give me a sound reason for it?

It’s an election year?

It’s an election year?[/quote]
Well, that, and to attempt to preempt the even dumber ideas the Democrats are pushing. Like Bob’s idea of giving away money to everyone, which is basically echoing what Chuckie Schumer is pushing.

You have an incredible memory. Wow.
