I have many secondary Facebook, Instagram, etc. accounts and for those secondary accounts I indicated a phone number from a SIM card which I don’t use anymore but still has reception in order to be able to receive an SMS from time to time. So in order to be able to receive an SMS I would need to keep this SIM card alive at the lowest possible cost. I bought this SIM card in April 2020 for TWD 952 with 8GB data valid for six months in an official Chunghwa Telecom shop.
As my package expired in October 2020 I stopped using that SIM card and switched to an APTG postpaid SIM card as my primary SIM card. Later I started to use my old SIM card for receiving SMS again. In a Chunghwa Telecom shop they said if I do nothing they would turn off the signal in September 2021. They recommended me to top up my SIM card with TWD 100 valid for six months. But they didn’t tell me if the signal would also be cut off immediately after the expiry date of the TWD 100. As I still have time until September 2021 I decided to do nothing for the moment as I could still go to top up my SIM card later this year.
I’m not planning to use the TWD 100 at all and I’m strongest suspecting that after the expiry date of the TWD 100 I would still have signal for another eleven months. My goal is to keep my secondary SIM card which I only use for receiving SMS alive as long as possible at the lowest possible cost. The credit of TWD 100 I’m not planning to use at all. In Thailand you can top up an AIS sim card by THB 5 online by credit card every month in order to keep that SIM card alive or top up THB 5 twelve times in a roll to extend the validity by one year but it seems that here in Taiwan everything is much more complicated. How is the situation here in Taiwan/Chunghwa Telecom? Taiwan Mobile would even have international roaming on their prepaid SIM cards so if the expiry date of Taiwan Mobile SIM cards would be similar or the same compared to Chunghwa Telecom SIM cards I could also switch to Taiwan Mobile.
