Site Disclaimer

If you want to add a disclaimer as you wrote in your initial mail, I would propose something like this, you might want to expand on it a little:

“Any volunteer opportunities discussed, introduced, offered or otherwise mentioned in this forum shall at no time be deemed to be endorsed by forumosa.com. Forumosa.com is an impartial, non-political and non-profit provider of on-line discussion fora and is dedicated to helping its members help one-another.”

If what you want is to “warn” your members that what they’re about to discuss might be illegal, you need a different text of course. I don’t think there should be any problem for forumosa as it might be illegal to engage in volunteer work (which I’m not sure of yet), but it should still be o.k. to discuss it … I think. Xpet

Xpet,

Yes, I like your suggestion. I would revise it only slightly as follows:

I like Tigerman’s first one. It’s not a busy forum, but quite a few of the ads could be construed as ‘work’, like Juba’s YHA one for instance.

Depends on what we want. Are we warning people that volunteering may not be legal, or, as Expet suggested, merely protecting the site with a disclaimer.

We could, I suppose, do both.

Oh, and maybe pop it on the other job forums too ? Or is that just silly ?

Tigerman, yes, you greatly improved my first attempt, thanks! I forgot to mention one thing: before I wrote my first reply to this thread, I went looking for a general disclaimer for the entire site, but couldn’t find one … did I just not find it or is there none? If you really have no legal disclaimer for the site as a wole, I’d suggest to think about it; I don’t know whether there are any precendents in which a discussion forum has been held responsible for view expressed in one of it’s threads? Workpermit-related stuff isprobably only one issue that could carry such potential … :astonished: Xpet.

That’s not a bad idea at all. A quick Google search turned up this form disclaimer used by another site (I have slightly edited the same):

[quote]Use of the service and the information contained in the Discussion Forum and/or the website is at your own risk. [This site] and/or its agents accept no liability for any material supplied by Participants. Any views or opinions expressed are not necessarily those of [this site] or its agents. No responsibility for loss or distress occasioned to any person acting or refraining from acting as a result of the information contained in the Discussion Forum or the Website can be accepted by [This site] or its agents.

Whilst all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that any information supplied by [This site] and/or its agents (as opposed to information supplied by Participants) is accurate and complete, neither [This site] nor its agents make any representations or warranties, express or implied, in relation to the accuracy or completeness of said information.

In no event shall [This site] or its agents be liable for indirect, special, incidental, punitive or consequential losses or damages (including loss of profits, revenue or goodwill) arising as a result of the Service or the information contained in the Discussion Forum or on the Website or any transaction made in reliance on the information contained in the Discussion Forum or on the Website.[/quote]

[quote]Liability of Internet Services Provider, including Forum Administrator

It has long been established in common law countries that intermediaries may be liable for defamation.

Sounds good. I’d add a passage disclaiming responsibility for links posted, or rather content of web-sites whose links have been posted in the forum. Xpet.

Thanks for that, very interesting!! Time to add that disclaimer I’d say! Xpet.

“This site is run using 100% recycled electrons. No matter has been created or destroyed in the production or maintenance of this site. DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG UNDER PENALTY OF LAW.”
