Victor H. Mair has written a short piece on the wording of the official slogan of the 2008 Olympics:

The slogan is dull and cheesy.
Quite an interesting article from Mr H. Mair though. Feels like he scribbled the idea for it on a pub beermat then went home and wrote it up.
Note the obligitary dig at the inefficiency of Chinese characters at the beginning, which doesn’t relate anything else he’s saying. Good ole’ Pinyin.info!

Almost certainly.
I suspect that Mair’s reasoning would be something along the lines that Westerners have no more obligation to use “Beijing” than they do to use, say, “Roma” instead of “Rome” – especially as long as China continues to mangle the names of places in lands that don’t use Chinese characters (i.e. almost everywhere). Moreover, the Peking spelling reflects not an error but the pronunciation of the prestige dialect of the imperial court at the beginning of the time of greater Western involvement with China – that of the Jesuits.
But I can’t speak for him. So if you really want to know, ask Mair.

Maybe the logo could be a little running figure being followed closely by a tank. They could add little sweat drops on the runner or even an exlamation mark to make it ‘cute’.
They’ll take the Lien Zhan and James Song election bike logo, put some olympic rings under it…
