Smoky Inn Bavarian Restaurant (Sanzhi)

Anyone been there? Where exactly is San Jhih (somewhere at the back of Datun Shan but that doesn’t help me much) and how to get there?

dwb-taipei.org.tw/2005/GerMa … kyInn1.htm

(Their own website seems to be out of order …)

Their website is working now. San jhih is about 15 minutes past Danshui on the highway road. The restaurant is in the mountains above San jhih. It is possible to get their via mountain roads from Peitou in about 20 minutes. We once looked at a masterplanned community in San Jhih mountains so we are familiar with the place.

Prices and food looks pretty good on their website and the scenery in those mountains is breathtaking.

I think that’s the guy who sold sausages and bread during the German week at SOGO a while back. He had REAL Leberk

The link under the linked site above still doesn’t work for me.

Edit: ok, NOW it works (after yet another attempt). :s

Cool, thanks. Will check it out if I am in the area next time.

Whoever goes next, please come back and update this thread with your thoughts. If you don’t mind, please ask if they make “jaegerschnitzel”.

Thanks

This place makes a trip to Bai sha wan beach even that much more attractive. Imagine an afternoon at the beach and then a short 20 minute drive to the restaurant in the mountains for a feast and then drive home after all the traffic has past. :rainbow:

that smoked pork loin sounded good!

That pork leg or pig knuckle thing looked a bit too much like fresh carcass for me.

Sanzhi

Has the Automated Pinyin nazi been infected by the Tongyong virus? Say it ain’t so!!

Well, well, now, has anybody actually eaten there? How was the food? I found the website looks promising, but so do most websites. If they have Leberk

I went to Bai Sha wan beach recently but didnt go to the restaurant. Its more like 30-40 minutes past Danshui and there are loads(8) of speeding cameras and lights on that road. Years ago it was like a highway. Its pretty far away.

We have been there several times with various members of the extended family (10-12 people at a time), and highly recommend it. Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. Get the sausage plate or the assortment platter. We also like the cheese platter. They serve Erdinger and Jaeger. Like all great restaurants, the owner, Andreas, is a great fellow. His staff is friendly. The decor isn’t fancy, but the view, as someone mentioned, is lovely.

You’ll need to call ahead and reserve a table, as it gets very busy on the weekends. TEL:02-25115048

Was watching the travel and living channel… had this food show on… and they were at this awesome looking german joint… from what i could tell, it was run by a german bloke (on the chubby side) and was situated somewhere in the hills~

food was a variety of german sausages, and some kind of deep-fried camenbert (sp?) cheese with cream~ also had pig’s feet

unfortunately, they didn’t say at the end of the show where it was… i guess that they did so at the start~
anybody know this place? looks like the food is really good and seemed a nice place to go…

There is a lot of info about this place here on Forumosa.com.
I remember seeing it last year I think.

Woo hoo! The actual moderator actually does some moderating! What a fucking start to the New Year, eh? Smoky Inn.

thanks guys~ much appreciated

We keep going back. The place is addictive. Well worth the trip into the hills. Easy to find once you’re on the right road.

Have at it folks.

we had brunch today - what a load of meat! ham, brats, jerky … the list went on. i heard a bunch of locals complaining that it was mostly meat, but they were also putting it away at a great clip.

beer was great too - one of our party said the dark wheat beer “didn’t taste like beer”. had to agree that it didn’t taste like taiwan beer

andreas was a welcoming host when i went downstairs with the boy - a bit of chat with a few samplers of german “jaeger” like shots (cheers for that). he even has a automatic jaegermeister pouring machine.

good quality food, and i’ll go back (likely with other carnivores). bit of a trek from taoyuan, though.

The site seems to be down - any directions would be deeply appreciated.
