Smoky Inn Bavarian Restaurant (Sanzhi)

Wow!
I’ve never been there but I’ve just added it to my short list of must-go-to-places.
The pictures of the food on that site look great.
The big family dishes look like they’d be fantastic for a big group of people.

For those of you that have been there, would this be a good place for a Forumosa gathering? :hungry:

I can recommend the place, was there a few times. Food is great, owner a real character (yes he does like Schnapps) but make sure you book, otherwise you might just make the long journey for nothing.

I was looking at that picture this morning. It would be nice to go and not have to drive.

Yes. Is there any way to get there using public transportation? Would a taxi be out of the question?

I’ve always wanted to check this place out, but I am car-less in Taipei, and don’t really have a way to make it out there.

And I agree with Josefus that this would probably make a great spot for a Forumosa gathering (though I haven’t been there yet, either).

Looks like a nice restaurant to stop and have a bite to eat in Jinshan?

anyone going there? give us the scoop?

How come no one answered this?
Anyone know, like right now?

edit: was it the Smoky Inn? If so, found it.

At the intersection of Coastal Highway 2 (Dan-Jin Gong Lu) and the road leading to Yangmingshan (Yang-Jin Gong Lu).

The Smoky Inn Bavarian Restaurant was a mixed experience.

The food was good, not great. Much better than what I had in that other ‘German’ place in Neihu ( Pan's Garden in Neihu ), but nowhere near as good as what I had in Koln (Germany).

I made a mistake and ordered the meatloaf, which was VERY bland. My mum had the Smoked Pork pan and she loved it, I had a few bites of her plate and agreed.

Mum and I thought that the sauerkraut was too sweet and not sour enough, but my hubby (Taiwanese) thought it was perfect.

Hubby went for the mixed sausage plate, which I thought was a bad choice as we have a freezer full of sausages from Esslingen ( http://e-h-f.com/ ). So I was not surprised that he thought it was the same as what I put together at home.

What really affected my enjoyment was the roof garden, I don’t know if they have an indoor restaurant, but it was terrible on the roof. Most definitely not the right place to eat during the hot seasons.

The place was BUSY when we were there (apparently they got featured on TV some time ago, and they are getting a lot of write-ups on Taiwanese food blogs).

We did not make a booking, so we were lucky to get a table (for 1 hour only), which was enough time to have a relaxed lunch. After lunch we went across the road to the river, where there were a few nice looking swimming holes.

I am planning on going back there to try some more of their smoked meats dishes. I will make a booking for the inside, air conditioned restaurant if they have one, if not then I will wait until winter.
