Went for a walk at Meilun Shan today (Hualien). I came across this guy, which two cats were harassing. I had a look at Snakes of Taiwan, but couldn’t find anything. Any Herpetologists in Forumosa?

Is that a 南蛇 ? Quite big, but not poisonous, can be a little aggresive and still give a nasty bite, quite common too.

I see two snakes, or is that the same?

You see two pictures of the same snake and a black rubber or plastic tube.

There is a third snake. Top centre…looks like it is practicing being “stiff” and upright. Wait , may be a small tree ?

OK, two images, my head is muddy

I think we should come up with an L shaped camera sensor. I like it.

The cat looks down to the snake in the second picture, that’s interesting…

I didn’t plan it that way, but me too.

That would be Ptyas Mucosa, 南蛇

Taiwan beauty snake of decent size at the farm . I’m 6’4", so its an easy 7 feet. Really calm too.

Farm work really messes up your good looks.

Wow, that’s a late finding! What location and temperature?

Was 31 in the morning, then the clouds and wind came brought it down to low 20s by 5. Its wasn’t too.slow either, but tired.pretty quick.

Taidong, maybe 150m?

Brian, I wake up looking that good

Going through pics, these were in mid hualien during summer.

Oh, at first I thought he was wearing a beekeeper’s headgear.

Now I look again, I see he’s just ugly.

(Maybe i should wear my glasses more often?)

nah, it doesn’t. I look quite shredded after three weeks of farm work

Found a scorpion in my compost pile a couple of months ago. Do we have a thread for arachnids?

We got this
