Snigger: improbable headlines

On the BBC science & nature page today, two headlines side by side:

Aged females threaten juniper

Orangutans face greater threat

What threat could be greater than an aged female?

I thought this headline improbable until I read the story:

“Trenchcoated astronaut on battery, kidnapping rap”

An aged female with unintimidated juniper?

This one caught my eye yesterday. I thought he was maybe accusing the pigs of lying about him or something.

Of course it wasn’t all that funny once I read the story.

aged females threaten juniper.

now that just might have something to do with gin…?
or it’s probably something predictable, like breast cancer treatment.

am i on track? (hey, link the story if you find it)

otherwise we could just make them up, like:

martian bees cash in on french bourse

left-handed shark scoops pool in immigration stakes

immigration officer blinded by laser-wielding sharks

etc

The SCMP displaying its eagerness to mimic the tabloids had a good one for that astronaut story today, “Lust in space.”

But my all time favourite is still

the Sun’s “Super Cally go ballistic Celtic are atrocious” on relative lightweight Scottish football team, Caledonian Thistle beating favourites Glasgow Celtic 3 to 1.

nice mary poppins reference, HGC

Many years ago, one of the San Francisco papers had a headline that read “Dems urge Clinton to come clean on Monica Lewinsky.”

“Dutch stars hurt in Grease mishap”
