Now that we’ve exhausted this subject, a more interesting question.
What were the most covered songs by bar bands back in your home town?
When I left home, it was already the 21st century and bands were still playing “Mustang Sally” and “Brown Eyed Girl” every night. All those Memphis R&B numbers, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Aretha, you’d swear it was 1965 if you walked into a random bar in plenty of parts of Arkansas. Well, except for the Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff. The standards are the standards, I guess, every band has to pay their dues by playing’em.

Damn near every band I’ve ever seen has covered either “I don’t wanna hear it” by Minor Threat, or “Unity” by Operation Ivy.
As far as bar bands go, I think I’ve heard “Country Roads” by John Denver more than enough…and what’s that Kenny Roger’s song…“You gotta know when to hold 'em…know when fold 'em…”
Most of the punk bands from my neck of the woods didn’t play covers, which I think had more to do with the fact that they were teenagers playing at all-ages shows who still hadn’t mastered their instruments.
I heard some Mandopop songstress having a go at covering this exact song on the radio last night.
It was actually a lot less shit than the original.[/quote]
blasphemy!!
(not that i don’t think coldplay are massively over-rated but i like the song and the video a lot…) [did my double negative work out right there…i meant i do think coldplay are over rated]

“Yellow” was shit. A bunch of arty-farty toss fronted by a lead vocal that sounds like a baby in a vice grip.
On the whole, I don’t mind Coldplay. They’re not great, but they’re OK. That song just got on my tits something gigantic.
